1st European Conference on Traumatic Stress Studies: Lincoln, England.
Roderick Ørner (Conference chair) discusses forming a European branch of what became the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), based in North America. In recognition of the significance of the distinctive European psychotraumatology traditions, a European Trauma Network for professionals was instead developed. The ETN aimed to facilitate networking between academic institutions, treatment centres and individuals with a shared interest in the effects of trauma and their resolution, as well as organising more European conferences.

2nd European Conference on Traumatic Stress Studies: Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands.
1992
ISTSS holds 1st World Conference on Traumatic Stress in Amsterdam. A planning group of Wolter de Loos, Atle Dyregrov, Roderick Ørner and Stuart Turner formed to establish a European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies as an affiliate of the ISTSS.
1993
The ESTSS is launched
3rd European Conference on Traumatic Stress Studies: Bergen, Norway.
European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS) officially launched.

Formal links established with the Association de Langue Française pour l’Etude du Stress et du Trauma (ALFEST).
