The international conference Trauma and Culture is organized to address youth mental health in the context of global challenges. Leading experts in mental health raised the importance of mental health and difficulties in developing the positive identity of youth. There is growing evidence that the majority of youth are exposed to life-stressors and traumatic experiences. Global challenges such as societal changes, global warming, or pandemics contribute to the growing burden on youth.
The conference will bring up together experts and the leading psychologists from Germany, Japan, and Lithuania who will present state-of-the-art knowledge, based on modern theoretical conceptualizations and advanced research methodologies on youth mental health.
The conference was inspired by the highly successful collaboration between the Lithuanian and Japanese psychology researchers from Vilnius and Hiroshima Universities, led by prof. E.Kazlauskas and assoc. prof. Y.Kamite. The joint two-year collaboration of clinical and development psychologists provided unique insights into youth development and mental health. Cross-cultural studies on psychological responses to stress and trauma are particularly important for a better understanding of the normal response to stressful experiences and coping mechanisms after adverse life experiences. The research project contributed to the development of appropriate assessment tools and provided research-based knowledge for implementing mental health services for adolescents and young adults.
