President

Professor Dominic Murphy

Dominic Murphy is an academic consultant clinical psychologist, having completed both a PhD in Health Psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He is an expert in the field of psychological trauma and has extensive experience of caring for, and conducting research with, traumatised populations. For example, is leads a number of research projects including exploring new treatments for moral injury-related mental ill-health, Complex PTSD, and for survivors of military sexual trauma. Dominic leads the Combat Stress Centre for Applied Military Health Research, is the past President of the UK Psychological Trauma Society, the Director for Research and trustee at the Forces In Mind Trust and co-Director of the King’s Centre for Military Health Research at King’s College London. Dominic has focused on translational research to improve the outcomes for those affected by trauma and is widely published with over 250 scientific papers and reports.

Dr Odeta Gelezelyte

Odeta Gelezelyte is a clinical psychologist and a senior researcher and associate professor at the Center for Psychotraumatology, Vilnius University (Lithuania). Dr Gelezelyte is also the president of the Lithuanian Society for Traumatic Stress. In her research, she focuses on the risk and protective factors of PTSD and complex PTSD, as well as psychotraumatological assessment and internet interventions for stress and stress-related disorders. She is also a part of the ESTSS ADJUST COVID-19 Study Consortium, working on the pan-European longitudinal study of psychosocial reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has received an individual scholarship from the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences for supporting relevant research activities (2022-2023). She has also been awarded the Vilnius University Rector’s Prize for Scientific Achievements in 2022.

Dr Joanne Mouthaan

Dr. Joanne Mouthaan is associate professor in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychology at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of Leiden University, the Netherlands. In her teaching and research she focuses on the prediction, prevention and etiology of PTSD and other trauma-related psychopathology, early risk screening and early (e-health) interventions, with a special focus on injury survivors and uniformed services. Dr. Mouthaan is part of the national and international research consortiums for trauma and mental health research. She currently leads a research programme on the cost-effectiveness of written exposure therapy for PTSD in general practice. Part of her work involves studying and implementing (digitally) innovative strategies to teach (online) therapeutic skills in the context of trauma and suicide prevention for which she received governmental and university grants. She received a Jan van Dijk Victimology Award for her PhD thesis and was nominated for the Institute of Psychology’s Best Teacher Award at Leiden University. She was the organizational chair for the 2019 ESTSS biennial conference in Rotterdam together with dr. Miriam Lommen. Dr. Mouthaan is part of the editorial board of the European Journal for Psychotraumatology, chair of the Dutch psychotrauma association (NtVP, until end of January 2026), and immediate past president of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS, 2023-2024).

Executive Secretary

Zoran Šuković

Zoran Šuković holds a degree in psychology and has been part of the ESTSS since 2014. In his role as Executive Secretary, he supports the Society’s governance and strategic work, coordinates communication across the Board, committees and membership, and manages the day-to-day operations of ESTSS. With extensive experience in working with international professional organisations, he plays a key role in ensuring continuity, efficiency, and effective collaboration within the Society.
