The ESTSS is committed to ensuring a high standard of professional practice across Europe and to facilitate the exchange of expertise within the European member societies via training and professional development. The Society previously offered the General Certificate in Psychotraumatology which was launched in 2007 and discontinued in 2024.
Currently, we are currently developing curricula aimed at specific professions. Training that meets these criteria will be eligible for validation and accreditation by the ESTSS, entitling qualification holders to be recognised as ESTSS Certified Professionals.
The Curriculum for Psychotherapy focuses on developing and validating local training and education on specific topics within the psychotraumatology field. The Curriculum is developed in partnership with ESTSS Member Societies and ensures that national and regional training shares common goals, objectives and evidence-based content. Following these guidelines ensures that the courses are of a suitable quality to be validated by the ESTSS.
The first topic for which the Curriculum guidelines are available is the Therapy of Posttraumatic Disorders in Adults. Societies and organisations wishing to ensure their training adheres to the standards established by the ESTSS are invited to view the Curriculum Outline and Professional Certificate Regulations.
