The European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS) established the ESTSS Future International Leadership Group (FLG) in 2019. The group brings together highly motivated early-career professionals in the field of psychotraumatology from across Europe. Its aim is to foster an international network of future leaders, supporting them in developing leadership skills, expanding their professional networks, and gaining international experience. Members are appointed for a two-year term.
ESTSS is now inviting applications for membership of the Future International Leadership Group for the 2027–2028 term.
The Future International Leadership Group offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the future direction of ESTSS while developing leadership skills and building an international professional network.
Members of the Future International Leadership Group work alongside experienced colleagues within ESTSS committees on a range of strategic activities. The expected commitment is approximately 10 hours per month. Activities may include further developing the ESTSS European Curriculum, contributing to ESTSS Summer Schools, preparing educational materials for the public and policymakers, supporting ESTSS webinars, and contributing to both internal and external ESTSS communications.
Members of the Future International Leadership Group receive mentoring and support from committee chairs, committee members, and the ESTSS Board. They are encouraged to contribute their own ideas, develop new initiatives, and strengthen both their professional network and the wider network of early-career professionals in psychotraumatology. Members participate in regular online meetings and meet in person during the biennial ESTSS Conference.
In recognition of their contribution, members are eligible for conference registration waivers for selected ESTSS conferences and have opportunities to contribute to the scientific and professional programme, including activities specifically designed for early career professionals. Members are also encouraged to support conference organising committees by helping engage students, trainees, early-career practitioners, and researchers.
Application Requirements and Procedures
Applicants should be based in Europe and be early-career professionals in psychotraumatology, including PhD candidates, clinicians in postgraduate specialist training, or postdoctoral researchers within four years of obtaining their PhD. Applicants should also be proficient in English.
Applications will be assessed based on applicants’ motivation to contribute to the mission and activities of ESTSS, together with their previous professional experience.
Applications must include:
- A letter of motivation;
- A Curriculum Vitae;
- A letter of recommendation from a representative of a national psychotrauma society or another recognised expert in the field of psychotraumatology.
Applications should be submitted by 1 September 2026 to the ESTSS Executive Secretary, Zoran Sukovic, at secretariat@estss.org.
