Word from the ESTSS President

As we move into the autumn, I am delighted to share another edition of the ESTSS newsletter and to reflect on the continued growth and activity taking place across our Society.

This is an especially exciting time for our conference community. Registration and abstract submission are now open for the 19th European Conference on Traumatic Stress, which will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, in June 2027. Our biennial conference remains a highlight of the international traumatic stress calendar and an important opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen collaborations and reconnect with colleagues from across Europe and beyond. I encourage you to explore the conference programme, consider submitting your work and join us in Coimbra.

Looking further ahead, I am delighted that Oslo has been selected to host the 20th European Conference on Traumatic Stress in 2029. This will bring the conference back to Norway twenty years after the previous Norwegian ESTSS conference, and we look forward to working with our colleagues at NKVTS over the coming years.

This newsletter also provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of members of our community, including the well-deserved recognition received by former ESTSS Presidents Miranda Olff and Joanne Mouthaan. Their work reflects the scientific excellence, commitment and wider societal contribution that characterise our ESTSS family.

Our Future International Leadership Group continues to play an important role in developing the next generation of professionals within the Society. Applications for the 2027–2028 group have been extended, and I encourage early-career colleagues from across our network to consider applying. The current group has also continued its excellent Future Leaders Talks on Psychotrauma podcast series, with new conversations exploring culturally responsive support for refugees and asylum seekers, complex PTSD, collective suffering and recovery.

Following our productive Board meeting in Athens earlier this year, we are now looking forward to meeting again in Sofia in October. It will be a valuable opportunity to review our progress, prepare for the next ESTSS term and further strengthen our collaboration with BAPST and colleagues in Bulgaria.

Finally, please remember that ESTSS is your Society. We welcome your ideas, news and involvement, and I encourage you to continue sharing the important work taking place across our member and affiliated societies.
